CAN YOU RELATE?
MORE ON BUILDING HEALTHY MENTORING RELATIONSHIPS
There is a lot of talk about bringing students to Jesus…what about bringing Jesus to students?
“Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another, No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and His love is perfected in us.” 1 John 4:11-12 (ESV)
As we truly love others, God lives in us, And His love is brought to full expression through us! In other words, if we reach out and relationally connect with a student, the Spirit of God actually ministers through us to that student, so that we’re not just offering our own care; we become a conduit of God’s care!
1 Thessalonians 2:1-13
5 Characteristics of a Healthy Spiritual Mentor
- Genuine love (v 7-8)
- Personal investment (v. 8)
- Model Christ (v. 10)
- Clear goal (v. 11-12)
- Share God’s Word (v. 13) “encouraging, comforting, and urging you to live worthy of God” (v.12 NIV)
Students don‘t listen to the urge if not first encouraged and comforted.
You can’t encourage and comfort a crowd.
