Current Conditions in India

  • One-third of Bombay's population lives in slums.
  • One-fourth of India's population earns less than 40 cents per day.
  • Approximately 35% of the population are considered food insecure.
  • India has a higher rate of malnutrition among children under the age of three than any other country in the world.
  • Prostitution/sex slave industry is huge in Bombay. There are estimates of 60,000 prostitutes in a 10 square mile radius in the red light district.
