MEXICO

Muzquiz is a community located approximately 90 miles southwest of Eagle Pass, Texas.  Our involvement began with Dave Innerebner who took his Disciple Training Class made up of Ojibwa Indians from the U.S. and Canada on an outreach to Mexico. Their original plans did not materialize, so they began to pray and ask God where they should go. As they looked over a map they discovered El Nacimiento, the place where Black Seminoles live near a Kickapoo Tribe, just outside of Musquiz. A few years later we joined Dave and Pam with our first family / high school trip which consisted of 35 people. We were unable to meet with the Kickapoo but did build some great bridges with the Black Seminole Indians and the people of Morelos.

Through those relationships we met Pastor Juan Antonio who had a small church in Muzquiz reaching out to a poor community called District 28, where we have been serving ever since.

CURRENT CONDITIONS SURROUNDING MUZQUIZ

  • Prostitution is at its highest level resulting in STD’s, abortion and unwanted / abandoned children, which makes up many of the kids we reach out to in District 28.
  • Crack cocaine has found its way into the community which adds to its marijuana and huffing gas & paint thinner problems.
  • Alcohol remains one of the biggest problems within marriages and families and often contributes to physical and sexual abuse.
  • A new gang called the Z’s has moved into Muzquiz which has taken over the less powerful gangs. The gang is made up primarily of ex-soldiers and is far more organized and strategic than the former gangs.

CHRIST THE ROCK’S INVOLVEMENT

  • Over the past 10 years, we have sent over 800 people on short term mission trips.
  • We were able to put up soccer goals, basketball hoops, swing sets, perform skits/dramas, offer children’s programs, support Pastor Juan, and mostly bring hope to the community.
  • Our involvement with District 28 brought attention to the Mayor of Muzquiz who later committed to pave the roads and put up lights for the community and rebuild the plaza. We have made the local news several times and were on two live talk shows. When asked why we are in the news so often, the response was because we love the people and that is newsworthy.
  • Today Pastor Juan’s church continues to struggle against the odds. He is working to establish youth groups, marriage groups and children's groups.
  • One of Pastor Juan’s dreams is to provide a daily feeding program and eventually an orphanage for the abandoned children. He has his eye on an abandoned hospital which has 15 rooms. Though it would need some fixing up, it would be a great facility to help get these kids off the streets, into school and to break the cycle of drugs, gangs and prostitution.

WHAT CAN WE DO?

PRAY

  • For Pastor Juan and the churches within Muzquiz.
  • For the Mayor, police, the military and teachers in Muzquiz.
  • For laborers, and that God would reach people within the community.
  • To be an example of what God can do in a life surrendered to Him.
  • For our short & long term trips and presence.
