PORTICO

In 2006, Christ the Rock officially planted a daughter church in the Oshkosh area. This church, under the pastoral direction of Eric Leverance, has a unique approach and a unique name: Portico. A portico is an ancient Greek or Roman architectural structure of a covered porch supported by columns. They often became meeting places where people had conversations about spirituality and the meaning of existence. The desire is that Portico is a place where similar conversations take place today.

VISION

The vision of Portico is to be a community of worshipers in the city of Oshkosh that resonates with the emerging generation and culture, and draws them into a connection with others and with God through Jesus.

As a community, we desire to:
  • Enable people to begin and develop a continual genuine connection to God through Jesus.
  • Cultivate creative expressive hearts in worship and in sharing the story of God.
  • Foster a life-giving community that learns, discovers and dreams about what it means to live out the call of God.
  • Establish gatherings in other communities which share a common vision with a unique expression.
Portico’s unique approach includes regularly sharing a meal as a community, incorporating a diversity of artistic worship elements, and children’s worship gatherings that happen within the family structure.  Currently this community meets twice monthly with plans to meet weekly for worship gatherings in the fall of 2006.
