Spiritual Warfare – Fighting a Good Fight!

Humble yourself under the mighty Hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time – 1 Peter 5:6-10

Growth – Inhibiter #1 – three distinct enemies:
1. The Devil
2. The world
3. The flesh

When lions hunt, they look for weak young, isolated, unguarded animals. They are the ones marked for attack.

The devils ultimate agenda is to destroy us not merely to hurt, maim, discourage, but to devour and destroy us – John 10:10
He does that when:
1. We bow to circumstanced
2. Pressures
3. Forces of his evil design

He wants us to yield to him. Overcome him. Adopt a reverse! B.O.W. to Jesus, the one you:
1. Believe
2. Obey
3. Worship

He overcame, refusing to bow to Satan’s devices – Matthew 4:8-10

Growing in Him will bring the same ability to resist or stand against the devil – 1 Peter 5:9
Be clothed in the Full Armor of God – Ephesians 6:10-14
Believe Him – Hebrews 11:16
Obey Him – 1 John 3:24
Worship Him – John 4:23
Receive Christ’s over-coming Victory—by the Blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony – Revelation 12:11

Faith’s Warfare – Ephesians 6:10-18
Paul admonishes us to put on the whole armor of God in order to stand against the forces of hell. It is clear that our warfare is not against physical forces but against invisible powers who have clearly defined levels of authority in a real, though invisible sphere of activity. This is not a passive protection in facing the enemy; it is to be used offensively against these satanic forces. Note—Paul’s final directive: we are to be “praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit – vs. 18. Thus prayer is not so much a weapon or even part of the armor as it is the means by which we engage in the battle itself and the purpose for which we are armed.

To put on the armor of God is to prepare for battle. Prayer is the battle Itself with God’s Word being our chief weapon employed against Satan during our struggle.

All prayer is literally “every order of praying”, the specific method by which spiritual warfare is carried on. Prayer is to include supplication in the Spirit a phrase that elucidates Romans 8:26-27 and Jude 1:20 where Holy Spirit assisted prayer is taught and directed. 1 Corinthians 14:14-15 Paul clearly shows that such praying may include prayer “in a tongue” not known to the person praying. Any prayer that is directed, energized and sustained by the Holy Spirit is a prayer that is prayed in the Spirit. It falls into the same category as being in the Spirit, speaking by or in the Spirit and singing in the Spirit.

Praying in the Spirit:
1. Will be according to God’s will – 1John 5:14-15
2. Will glorify the Father through the Son – John 14:13
3. Is based upon God’s character, ways and the Word – John 15:7
4. Comes from a clean heart – James 5:16
5. Is prayed in full assurance of faith – James 1:6
6. Is asked in Jesus name – John 14:14
Such prayer will always find God’s answers – Ezekiel 22:30 & Isaiah 66:8- 9

Did you know?
A “stronghold” in the Old Testament was a place to hide, seek refuge, and defend oneself from enemies. It was often a cave, mountain cleft or crag that was difficult to access – Judges 6:2. While the Lord is the Christian’s stronghold – Psalm 27:1.

There is a way Satan can get a foothold and get close enough, little by little, to hurl his fiery darts and that way is sin. “Do not give the devil a foothold” – Ephesians 6:16. Resisting sin, and confessing it when it occurs, is the best way to deny the enemy access to our stronghold – 1 John 1:9

Identifying the Enemy
1. Satan’s Personality
2. Satan’s Person
3. Satan’s Power
4. Satan’s Purpose
5. Satan’s Strategies
Jesus has won the Victory for us. He has given us all the weapons and authority over our enemy. Jesus cried, “It is Finished”! We are His Army!
