The third beatitude of Jesus is one of the most misunderstood. Jesus says: “blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth” (Matt 5:5). The word meek is often misused and misunderstood. We tend to associate meekness with being timid, quiet or weak. The real definition of meek is tremendous power under control. Why are the meek blessed? What does it mean to inherit the earth? How do we grow in meekness? Tune in this week to find some answers.
In this series, we explore the eight blessings (or Beatitudes) recounted by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount. Each is a proverb-like proclamation, without narrative.
