Committed to the Mission

If you spend enough time around a church, you will often hear talk of "mission". We speak of mission trips, supporting missionaries, and being part of the mission of Jesus right in our own neighborhood. But when we say "the mission", what are we actually talking about? And how do we know when we are truly engaged in it? In the last message of our Called series, we will look at how to be committed to the mission of Jesus in our everyday lives.

From Series: "Called"

Deep down inside of us, everyone has this sense we’re called to something bigger – that we were made for a purpose greater than ourselves. Everyone feels this desire for their life to make a difference, because God put this desire inside each of us. We’re made in the image of God – which means we’re made in the image of greatness. We’re not meant to live lives of quiet desperation…but that’s what so many experience. When Christ came into the world, he did more than come to save sinners. Jesus came to teach us a way of life meant to save us from quiet desperation. The purpose Jesus called us to is summarized in the first encounter Jesus had in calling His disciples: “While walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And he said to them, ‘Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.’ Immediately they left their nets and followed him.” Matthew 4:18-20 (NIV)
