This Sunday we kick off a new series going through the Old Testament book of Esther. We will look at the background and setting that this story takes place. The series is called [A]Part of HIStory. We will begin to examine how God chose and used Esther as part of His larger story. We will look at the 6 main characters in this amazing story. We'll also look briefly at the main themes of the book and the topics we will cover in the following weeks. This is a book that many are not real familiar with. We want to go through the whole book and see what lessons God has for us from this part of His Word.
The book of Esther recounts the story of the Jewish people near the end of their exile, while facing the threat of extermination. Esther is the Persian name for the Jewish woman Hadassah. Esther is one of only two books in the Bible where the Name of God is not mentioned, yet God’s sovereignty and providence are incredibly woven through it.
