Everyone deals with temptation—we’re tempted to eat that junk food we promised ourselves we wouldn't, to lie to ourselves or others, to pursue relationships, situations, or objects that lead us further away from God. But what do we reach for when we're tempted? This week, we'll look at some ways to identify temptation, how Jesus dealt with temptation and how we overcome the desires within us.
Our next series will look at the symbol and practices of the season of Lent. Lent is a fixed amount of time set aside to focus on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. It's an invitation to interrupt our daily rhythms to symbolically follow Jesus into the wilderness. Lent is a call to fasting and self-denial, though not for the sake of denial itself. It is a period to empty ourselves of lesser things so that we might be filled with the greater things of the gospel.
