Matthew 5:21-48 is one of the most important teachings of Jesus in the New Testament. In this section of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus claims to be a greater authority than the Law of Moses. In doing so, Jesus rewrites a new law for the Kingdom of God. Jesus’ new law not only condemns external sinful action, but also sinful attitudes of the heart. The new standard kills all pride and forces us to Jesus Christ Who alone can enable us to rise to that standard which He Himself has set before us. The first message in this series will address murder and the sinful attitude of anger.
