Give us Today Our Daily Bread

We have been studying the Lord’s Prayer and you may have noticed this prayer is like an archaeological dig. On the surface, it seems simple. Dig a little bit, and you find new things. Dig deeper, and you discover even more. The prayer we look at this today is: "Give us this day our daily bread." Every word of this prayer is full of meaning. On this surface, it appears to be a plea for food. Dig below the surface and you will realize it’s a prayer for God to meet a deeper need than hunger. And if you dig deep enough you will discover how God meets all of our needs in Jesus himself.

From Series: "Teach Us to Pray"

Do you struggle with knowing how to pray, or wonder if God really hears your prayers? Many of us long to have a deeper prayer life -- and draw closer to God -- but we aren't sure how to grow in this spiritual discipline. The disciples asked Jesus directly, “Lord, teach us to pray." Jesus taught them a simple, powerful way to talk with God – we know it as the Lord’s Prayer. Most of us know that prayer by heart, but like the disciples, we often have misconceptions and fears about prayer. In the midst of our questions, God invites us to bring everything to him in prayer. God wants to be in a deep, close relationship with you, grow you as a disciple, and empower you to make disciples. The same is true for Christ The Rock as a community of believers -- and if we are really going to make that happen, we need to be a church that prioritizes prayer. We can’t do it in our own strength.
