The first command Jesus gave in his public ministry was to repent and believe the good news. The good news is that Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners. Salvation begins with repentance, but repentance is more than the door to salvation – it’s part of abiding in Jesus. Repentance is also our daily response to the conviction of the Holy Spirit who forms our thoughts and actions into the image of Jesus as we act in obedience.
Jesus said, “If you keep my commands, you will abide in my love (John 15:10a ESV). Keeping the commandment of Jesus is foundational to abiding in Jesus and becoming the person God intends us to be. When we hear the word “command”, most of us think of something restrictive. The truth us, the commands of Jesus don’t restrict us- they bring us freedom and joy. In this series, we will look at the 7 main commands that Jesus gave to His followers, so that we might experience more of His love and be transformed to reflect His image!
