Blessed Are The Poor In Spirit

Blessed Are The Poor In Spirit

What does it mean to be blessed? Most of us associate blessing with material and personal success. Jesus has a very different definition. Jesus begins his famous sermon on the mount by reframing our understanding of blessing with the statement, “blessed are the poor in spirt for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” This sermon explores what it means to be blessed in the eyes of Jesus and why being poor in spirit is the first step.

In this series, we explore the eight blessings (or Beatitudes) recounted by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount. Each is a proverb-like proclamation, without narrative.
