In this message we will look at how Mordecai helped Esther see the larger story and the bigger picture. He said, ‘who knows if you have been placed in the position you are for such a time as this?’ Once she caught the vision of being a part of that larger story, she said,’ If I perish, I perish’. Once she got the right perspective, she was willing to die for something greater than the joys and comforts of living as the queen of Persia. She would rather take the risk and die while living for something eternal, than live a safe, comfortable, indulgent life. Likewise, once we catch a vision of the larger story [HIStory] and see that we are invited to be a part of it, and can contribute to that which will matter in eternity, we are willing to risk, even of our own lives.
The book of Esther recounts the story of the Jewish people near the end of their exile, while facing the threat of extermination. Esther is the Persian name for the Jewish woman Hadassah. Esther is one of only two books in the Bible where the Name of God is not mentioned, yet God’s sovereignty and providence are incredibly woven through it.
